In view of Covid-19 as a Digital Marketer and a Human

Doing Marketing amidst Covid-19 outbreak means being a human first then brand comes as a second. But first, allow me to share my personal commentaries and perspective in light of the PANICdemic.

Economic and consumer impact

Unpopular opinion: seems to me like a perfect formula for a #recession. Covid-19 outbreak + Oil price crash.

People are not going out this results to spending their money less. The demand for commodities are lower. But when there are no goods to transport what good is a low petrol? Keep in mind that oil is not just the petrol/gas we put in our car but it also lights up your home and are the components of products and commodities. It’s riffle effect is seen on stock market crash in the last 2 days and when businesses are not making money, they will cut cost. As stock market crash, and so is the job market.

Economic and consumer impact: over supply drove down the cost to🔻900%. It’s heartbreaking to see that the most affected ones are in the labour intensive sectors. What’s worst is that experts think it will take a year for this whole Covid-19 outbreak to be contained but and until then, it’s still a big if.

On the other side of the coin, Digital Products and E-commerce thrive. Perhaps this is something you can incorporate to your business verticals.

Doing Marketing at the time of Covid-19

For businesses, the biggest question is, “Should I stop marketing? Should I pause my ads?

My advise is don’t but be sensible.

Marketing is all about providing value: from customer acquisition to retention. This is the time where you have to pivot your content strategy and launch sensible content on your website in form of blogs, safety announcements and how to be united in this trying time.

The best approach is to be sympathetic. Express how you are dealing with the situation and offer convenience solution like online doctor consultation (if available), or if visit is needed, do let customers know how you are practicing safety and by doing so, you’re thinking about the safety of both customers and staffs.

Your customers will keep you in mind and in heart. Make them your brand champion by being a human first then a brand as a second.

Applying Stoicism with dealing with our current situation

“We’re all entitled to parents but not good parents.”

Harsh truth (perhaps a terrible reference; Im good with my folks btw) but once you adopt this kind of thinking you’ll find yourself less shaken by events happening around you.
Expectations are root of all disappointments as such, we must be comfortable with the inevitable. Take necessary repercussions and let things fall into place as to not disturb the natural order of things.
