1. Searches for mask emoji surpassed searches for hug emoji. Because hugs are great, but hey…wear a mask.
2. BLM Movement. In June 2020, what is systemic racism reached an all-time high, as more people questioned the institutions, government, processes and economic systems that perpetuate racial injustice.
3. Rising seas. Deforestation. Greenhouse gases. Wildfires. 2020 saw us searching how to stop climate change more than ever.
4. Delivering hope and healing. This year we focused on helping others more than we focused on ourselves – how to donate was searched twice as much as how to save money.
5. Insomnia related searches on the rise. Trouble sleeping? You weren’t alone. insomnia was searched more in 2020 than ever before.
6. Top Trending Food the world searched to bake.. That’s right Sourdough Bread is correct. We guess you could say sourdough rose to the top this year.
7. How to be an ally was searched more than how to be an influencer.
All over the world, we saw this shift in values as people turned their energies to being supportive, empathetic and taking a stand for voices unheard. For many people, ally ship meant standing with and for marginalized communities, committing to personal and public changes, and engaging in concrete actions to disrupt systemic oppression.
8. How to cut your hair was searched at an all-time high. Opting for business in the front, party in the back – mullet was searched twice as much as buzz cut.
9. Remember to breathe. Meditation was searched worldwide.
10. Virtual Museums. Our appreciation for art and culture didn’t stop when the doors closed. Virtual Museum was the top trending virtual activity we searched to experience.
11. Fortnite Virtual Catwalk. The top catwalk of 2020 was virtual. This year, the top trending fashion show people searched was in fortnite live.
12. What day is it? Shelter-in-place routine got you a bit disoriented? You’re not the only one. What day is it hit an all-time high in April 2020?
13. Coding. How to learn coding was the top trending thing people searched to learn. python was the top searched programming language.
14. Distance Learning. Kids in distance learning = parents in distance teaching. How to be a teacher was searched more than ever in 2020.
15. Work from home with kids. Oh heck yeah. Shout outs to all the parents WFH these days!
Closely followed by searches to “why does my child need 31 snacks per day”.
16. HAHA, on the other side, pranks on parents. Kids made “productive” use of their time at home this year, as pranks on parents reached an all-time high…
17. Nurse as a career aspiration Health care workers’ bravery inspired us all. The top searched thing people wanted to become during a pandemic year was a nurse.
18. Support Small Business. In 2020, worldwide searches for support small business doubled compared to the previous year.
19. How to manifest was searched more than how to be president. Because when you can attract whatever you want, why settle?
20. A simple comfort, close to home. Search interest in sunset near me reached an all-time high in 2020. A moment to be serene amidst the routine.
